Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)                    


 Who is the course aimed at?
This qualification is aimed at those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a workshop, classroom or other training environment and not just assessing competence in a work environment.

What will I learn?

​​This accredited qualification enables the student to understand how to assess competence in the work environment, as well as teaching them the practices and principles of assessment. The course is intended for anyone who assesses progress in their work environment.  During the course you will be required to assess 2 learners on 2 separate occasions.​

Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practice of assessment (3 credits)
This is the foundation of the course. It will provide you with all the knowledge and understanding you need to become a qualified Assessor. You will use these principles and practices throughout your Assessor career.

Unit 2 – Assessing competence in the work environment (6 credits)
This unit will teach you:
- How to practically assess learners within a work environment.
- How to follow approved standards and criteria.
- How to use valid methods of assessment.

Unit 3 – Assessing vocationally related achievement (6 credits)
This is the final unit of this course, in which you will learn:
- How to practically assess learners within a classroom environment.
- How to follow approved standards and criteria.
- How to use valid methods of assessment designed for the classroom.
How does it work?
​​You will be provided with a workbook and detailed guidance on how to complete the workbook and gather the required evidence to complete your qualification. Support and assistance is available online, through presentations and by working with your appointed link tutor. There is also the option to attend taught courses which will provide a further insight into each individual units as well as portfolio and evidence building. You will also need to be able to carry out assessments on at least 2 different learners who are currently working towards their own qualification.
Progression routes
The qualification will open up a range of assessment opportunities within your technical competence and skills. You may also consider progressing onto a role as an Internal Verifier or move into teaching or tutoring.​
Pre-requisites?
- Be competent in your field (the subject you want to assess).
- Level 2 written and spoken English (Equivalent to GCSE A-C).
- IT literate (Internet, Microsoft office).
- Self-motivated and willing to complete and achieve.
- Have access to people you can assess within the work environment.
- Have access to a qualified Assessor or IQA. They will provide the expert witness testimony for your ability to assess learners within the work environment. If you don’t have a suitable expert, contact us – we can help.
