Who is the course aimed at? The Certificate in Education and Training is aimed at people who are looking at getting into teaching or those already involved in teaching or working as a teaching assistant who are looking to further their training and qualifications. It is also ideal for assessors who are looking to add teaching or tutoring into their personal skill set. |
What will I learn?
To gain your Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, you must earn a minimum of 36 credits, made up of 21 mandatory unit credits and a minimum of 15 optional unit credits. This course will take you through 5 mandatory units and selected optional units.

- Using resources for education and training.
- Assessing learners in education and training.
- Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training.
Optional units
To complete the course, you will need to select one of a number of optional units, each of which is worth 15 credits.

How does it work?
You will be provided with a workbook and detailed guidance on how to complete the workbook and gather the required evidence to complete your qualification. Support and assistance is available online, through presentations and by working with your appointed link tutor. There is also the option to attend taught courses which will provide a further insight into each individual units as well as portfolio and evidence building. You will also need to be able to carry out a minimum of 30 hours of practical teaching, record and review this teaching and complete formal observations of your teaching.

You may also join the Society of Education and Training which is the professional membership organisation of the Education and Training Foundation for practitioners working in the post-16 education and training sector.

This may also include those who do not currently hold teaching or training positions but who can meet the requirements outlined in the standards. You will also need to demonstrate the required level in numeracy and literacy, be self-motivated and willing to complete and achieve the qualification.
