What will I learn?
The course can take between 6-12 months depending on your available time and access to practical teaching hours. You will be required to deliver 100 hours of teaching practice whilst on the course, if you have done any teaching in the past 3 months this may be taken into consideration. You will also be observed for a total of 8 hour during your teaching practice.

You will be provided with a workbook and detailed guidance on how to complete the workbook and gather the required evidence to complete your qualification. Support and assistance is available online, through presentations and by working with your appointed link tutor. There is also the option to attend taught courses which will provide a further insight into each individual units as well as portfolio and evidence building. You will also need to be able to carry out a minimum of 100 hours of practical teaching, record and review this teaching and complete formal observations of your teaching.

Progression routes
The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training allows and qualifies you to work in the lifelong learning sector in a full teaching position within further education as well as in some secondary schools. With this certification you are able to apply for your Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).

Pre-requisites?
Learners must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Reading and communication skills should be adequate to meet the requirements of the training.
- Do not have a criminal background which prevents them working, with young people or vulnerable adults, as a teacher.
- Hold a relevant qualification at a level above that of their learners; ideally at least Level 3 in their area of specialism.
- Minimum core of literacy, language, numeracy and ICT.
- Access to 100 hours teaching practice whilst on the course.
- Self-motivated and willing to complete and achieve.
